Guidewire runs policy, claims and billing for many property and casualty insurers. It is powerful and highly configurable, and that configuration builds up over the years: product models, rating, rules, integrations and custom Gosu code. Upgrades and moves to Guidewire Cloud then depend on people who understand both the platform and the insurance processes behind it.
A senior Guidewire developer combines both, so changes fit the business and the next upgrade stays manageable.
Clean configuration code and screens.
Coverages, rating and rules.
Messaging, web services and batch processes.
Understanding of policy, claims and billing processes.
Version and cloud upgrade experience.
GUnit and regression automation.
Slow product launches. Complicated product models and rating logic make new products slow to bring to market.
Upgrade delays. Heavy customisation makes cloud and version upgrades expensive.
Integration failures. Breaks between policy, claims, billing and external systems affect customers directly.
Every engineer we put forward has at least five years of hands-on experience. Within that, here is how the levels differ.
Senior Developer (5–8 years). Configures and extends PolicyCenter, ClaimCenter or BillingCenter in Gosu, PCF and the product model, and builds integrations. Holds Guidewire certification or equivalent experience.
Lead / Architect (8+ years). Owns solution design across the InsuranceSuite, integration architecture, upgrade and cloud migration strategy, and performance.
Configuration work. Product models, rating, rules and UI changes
Integrations. Connections to rating engines, document systems, payments and data platforms
Upgrades and Guidewire Cloud. Version upgrades and cloud migration support
Testing. GUnit and automated regression testing for core flows
Week one. They review your InsuranceSuite version, customisations, integrations and test coverage.
Weeks two and three. First configuration changes or fixes delivered through your release process.
Week four. A written list of upgrade risks and suggested clean-up.
Hiring Java developers without Guidewire experience. Gosu, PCF and the data model take time to learn.
Customising instead of configuring. Use base product capabilities wherever possible.
No regression suite. Core insurance flows need automated tests before every release.
