MuleSoft Developers Who Design APIs You Can Reuse

A shortlist typically within 72 hours, usually contributing inside two weeks, and 30-day replacement support if the fit is wrong (terms in your agreement).

Point-to-Point With Extra Steps

MuleSoft is sold on API-led connectivity: system APIs that wrap your back-end systems, process APIs that combine them, and experience APIs shaped for each channel. In practice many Anypoint estates end up as point-to-point integrations with a MuleSoft logo on them. Each project builds its own flows, nothing gets reused, and vCore costs climb with every new app.

A senior MuleSoft developer designs the layers properly, writes clean DataWeave, and treats each API as a product that other teams can find in Exchange and use without asking.

Screening

What We Screen For

API-led design

Clear system, process and experience layers, and the judgement to know when a simpler flow is enough.

DataWeave fluency

Readable, tested transformations, including large payloads and streaming.

Error handling

Consistent error types, retries, dead-letter queues and alerts someone can act on.

Security

Client ID enforcement, OAuth, TLS and API Manager policies set up properly.

Testing with MUnit

Unit and flow tests with mocks for external systems.

Deployment and cost

CloudHub, Runtime Fabric or hybrid deployments sized sensibly, with an eye on vCore spend.

What This Costs You When It Goes Wrong

Licence costs grow faster than value. When nothing is reused, every integration needs its own workers and vCores. Estates that started small become one of the bigger lines in the IT budget.

Errors disappear. Integrations without consistent error handling, retries and alerting fail silently. You find out when a customer order never reaches the ERP.

Upgrades stall. Teams still running Mule 3 apps or old runtimes face a migration that grows harder the longer it waits.

Seniority, Defined

Every engineer we put forward has at least five years of hands-on experience. Within that, here is how the levels differ.

Senior Developer (5–8 years). Builds Mule 4 applications, RAML or OAS specs, DataWeave transformations and MUnit tests. Comfortable with CloudHub deployments and connectors for Salesforce, SAP and databases.

Integration Architect (8+ years). Designs the API-led layers, governance, security policies and deployment model across CloudHub, Runtime Fabric or hybrid. Owns reuse and cost.

Common Requests

Salesforce and ERP integration. Syncing accounts, orders and invoices between Salesforce, SAP, NetSuite or Dynamics with proper error handling

API-led rebuilds. Turning point-to-point flows into reusable system and process APIs published in Exchange

Mule 3 to Mule 4 migration. Moving legacy apps to Mule 4 and a supported runtime, with tests in place first

Monitoring and support. Alerting, logging and runbooks so integration failures are caught before customers notice

What a Good First Month Looks Like

Week one. They map your current integrations, Anypoint organisation, environments and where errors are logged today.

Weeks two and three. First fixes or a new API built against a spec, with MUnit tests and a deployment through your pipeline.

Week four. A written view of reuse opportunities, error-handling gaps and anything running on an unsupported runtime.

Mistakes We See

Skipping the API design step. Flows built without a spec are hard to reuse. A senior developer writes the RAML or OAS contract before the implementation.

Hiring a generic Java developer. Mule runs on Java, but DataWeave, connectors and Anypoint governance are their own skills.

No MUnit coverage. Untested integrations make every change risky. Ask candidates how they test DataWeave and error paths.

How It Works

  1. Discovery, 30 minutes. Which systems you connect, your Anypoint setup, runtime versions and what fails today.
  2. Shortlist typically within 72 hours. Three to five profiles, weighted toward Salesforce, ERP or API platform work depending on what you described.
  3. You interview. Your process, your technical test. We suggest asking them to design the system, process and experience layers for one of your real integrations.
  4. Onboarded in two weeks. Contracts, NDA, IP assignment, Anypoint and sandbox access.
  5. 30-day replacement support. One email, and replacement candidates are typically presented within 48 business hours at no extra cost. Full terms →

FAQs

Questions

Do you work with Anypoint Platform and CloudHub 2.0?

Yes. Our engineers work with CloudHub, CloudHub 2.0, Runtime Fabric and hybrid deployments.

Can you migrate Mule 3 apps to Mule 4?

Yes. We usually start by adding tests to the existing app so the migrated version can be checked against it.

Do MuleSoft certifications matter?

The MuleSoft Certified Developer credential is a good baseline. The interview tells you whether they can design for reuse.

Can a MuleSoft developer also do Salesforce work?

Some can, especially for integration-heavy roles. Tell us the balance and we will weight the shortlist.

Do you offer integration architects?

Yes, for teams that need someone to own API design, governance and platform cost.
