RPA projects often start with quick wins: a bot that copies invoices from email into the ERP, another that downloads reports. Six months later, half the bots fail whenever a screen changes, exceptions pile up in a queue nobody checks, and the team spends more time fixing bots than building new ones.
A senior RPA developer builds automations that survive change: robust selectors, proper exception handling with REFramework, APIs used where they exist, and monitoring that catches failures early.
Structured, recoverable automations.
Bots that survive minor UI changes.
Using APIs and integrations where they exist.
Queues, schedules, assets and monitoring.
Extraction with validation stations.
Knowing which processes are worth automating.
Maintenance eats the savings. Fragile bots need constant fixing, cancelling out the time they were meant to save.
Silent failures. Without alerts and queues, failed transactions go unnoticed until someone complains.
Automating the wrong process. Messy processes automated as they are stay messy, only faster.
Every engineer we put forward has at least five years of hands-on experience. Within that, here is how the levels differ.
Senior Developer (5–8 years). Builds UiPath automations with REFramework, Orchestrator queues, API integrations and Document Understanding. Comfortable with selectors, exception handling and testing.
Lead / Solution Architect (8+ years). Owns the automation pipeline, process assessment, governance, licensing, Center of Excellence standards and when to use APIs or AI instead of UI automation.
Finance and back-office automation. Invoice processing, reconciliations and reporting
Document Understanding. Extracting data from invoices, forms and emails with human validation
Bot stabilisation. Fixing fragile bots and adding monitoring and queues
Automation roadmap. Assessing which processes are worth automating, and how
Week one. They review existing bots, failure logs, Orchestrator setup and the processes in the pipeline.
Weeks two and three. First stabilisation fixes or a new automation delivered with proper exception handling.
Week four. A written assessment of the automation pipeline and maintenance risks.
Automating screens when an API exists. APIs are faster and far more reliable than UI automation.
Skipping exception handling. Business and system exceptions need different handling.
No process owner. Every bot needs someone in the business who owns it.
